The obverse of the medal features a portrait of Ronald Reagan with the inscription "RONALD REAGAN" centered along the top of the medal and the inscription "PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES" centered along the lower border of the medal. The reverse of the medal features Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. Each state theme was proposed, and approved, by the governor of that state. Final designs were created by Mint personnel.
